McLeod Ganj is the perfect weekend getaway.

Mcleodganj is one of the towns situated in Himachal Pradesh in India. It is a very popular tourist destination, particularly during the peak time between April and June. It is now one of the top destinations in India because of its stunning scenery and the fact that it is near the city of Shimla (the Capital city of India).

 

Mcleodganj is situated at an elevation of 1,869 metres (6,000 feet) above sea level. It is spread over 17 square kilometers, with of 60 thousand residents in the area. The settlement is named for William Mackenzie, the governor general from 1845 to 1848, who rode a horse through this area with his wife Charlotte Augusta Emily.Anne de Winton who later became famous as Empress Elisabeth Alexandrovna Romanovskaya-Tsesarevna.n

Dal Lake

 

Dal Lake is a lake located in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is among the top tourist destinations throughout the country. This lake gets its water from Jhelum River and drained by the Tawi River.

 

It is said that an older man whose name was “Dal” resided on the land that is now Dal Lake. Four sons were his, who wanted to construct houses on the land of their father, but the father refused to let them build houses, telling them “I won’t let you build homes until you reach heaven”. The boys chose to bring their dad with them once they got to heaven to know what was in store for him when he reached heaven!

 

Bhagsunag Temple as well as Waterfalls

 

Bhagsunag temple and its waterfalls are the most stunning spot in Mcleodganj. It is situated in a quiet valley which is surrounded by plants and trees. The village is named in honor of the temple which was constructed in 1790 by the king Shri Pratap Singh Maharaj (1719-1775) who was the ruler of this region during British rule. The temple is situated on the top of a hill, its most notable feature being the waterfall located beneath it! The temple is surrounded by stunning views that will make you feel as if you’re in heaven!

 

Triund

 

Triund is a tiny hill station situated in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, India. It is located at an elevation of 3,100 meters (10,170 feet) above sea-level and is situated within the Shivalik range in the Lower Himalayas. The name “Triund” comes from the three summits: Triund Giri (3172 m), Chheri Giri (3059 m) and Agar Ghori (2926 m). The region around these three peaks was previously covered with thick forest that has been cleared to allow development.

 

The region around Triund is a stunning place to visit for tourists who visit to experience nature’s beauty at its finest as well as to experience the local culture while here!

 

St. John in the wilderness

 

St. John in the Wilderness is a Christian retreat center situated within the Dhauladhar mountain range in Himachal Pradesh. It is also called “Himalayan Shangri-la” which is where you’ll be able to sit in a quiet space and think about your life and also participate in activities that will help you develop spiritually.

 

The facility offers many programs for kids and adults alike, such as Yoga classes, mediation and art workshops, among others! The center itself offers three options for accommodation that include tents overlooking fields of flowers, rooms, or cabins that share bathroom facilities and cooking facilities (breakfast is included).

 

Tibetan monasteries

 

Tibetan monasteries are among the main tourist attraction of Mcleodganj. Visit them while in Mcleodganj and take a look at their stunning architecture, discover more about Tibetan tradition, sit in these monasteries, or go shopping with the local artisans. The two most well-known Tibetan monastery include Lhasa Monastery and Drepung Monastery that is situated on the hilltop with a view of Mcleodganj town. It was founded on the initiative of Gendun Drup Rinpoche who founded this monastery in 1416 AD, when he moved from Tibet to learn about Buddhism in the direction of Guru Padmasambhava at Samye Ling Monastery close to Mount Kailash (Tibet).

 

Another place you should check out while in the McLeodganj region of Kirtipur where you will find many tiny temples constructed by locals who came here from Kashmir valley following their escape from violence during the partition period of 1947-48. India was declared an independent nation following World War II ended with victory over German troops under Adolf Hitler’s Nazis who attacked Poland followed by Denmark and then France etc.
