Alang Madan Kulang Trek brief Guide

Introduction

The Alang Madan Kulang trek, commonly referred to as AMK or Alangad Madangad Kulangad, is in Nashik district, Maharashtra, in the Kalsubai range of the Sahyadris.

The hike is the most popular in Maharashtra.  It is one of three forts in the Western Ghats’ Kalsubai range, the other two being Madangad and Kulang. These excursions are challenging due to the thick forest cover. Due to extremely frequent high rains in the area and a challenging, unclear road to the forts, these three forts have been a little neglected.

Typically, the ascent between Madan and Alang is favoured. After leaving Kulang fort, it may take 3–4 hours to get to the step. A fixed rope must be used. This fort has two water cisterns and one sizable cave. The fort’s summit is a huge plateau. There are 11 water cisterns, a tiny temple, and two caverns on the fort. Building remnants are dispersed around the fort. To the east, north, and south of the fort are Kalasubai, Aundh Fort, Patta, and Bitangad; to the east, Harihar, Trimbakgad, and Anjaneri; and to the east, Harishchandragad, Aajobagad, Khutta (pinnacle), Ratangad, and Katrabai.

Being in the same area as the three forts, it is claimed that the climb to Kulag is the hardest. We encounter portions of rock-cut steps as we walk up. The journey from Kulanwadi to the fort takes six hours.. Mahuli with the three pinacles was also visible from here. The caves here are also places to lodge.

The Alang madan kulang trek is situated in nashik, there are other trek as well in nashik. Harihar Trek is one of the popular trek of that location.

History of the Alang Madan Kulang Forts

The ownership of the Alang Madan Kulang forts has changed numerous times, from the Marathas to the Mughals, back to the Marathas, and eventually to the British in 1818, all in a struggle for dominance. Many notable peaks and reservoirs, such the Kalsubai, Vikatgad, and Vishramgad to the north-east, Ratangad, Harishchandragad, Sandhan Valley, Ajobagad, Dangya Pinnacle to the south, and Bhandardara to the south-east, to mention a few, are visible from the summit!
